Economic Development for Hervey Bay

The Fraser Coast Regional Council has a progressive approach to attracting and encouraging business, paving the way for new investment, innovation and industry.

The Council's Economic Development Unit provides advice and ideas tailored to assist investors, developers and enterprises seeking to locate or expand in the Fraser Coast region.

The Economic Development team can facilitate major development proposals and has identified several areas of exceptional opportunity.

Construction and associated support industries, aquaculture, food processing, light engineering and manufacturing, aircraft-related industries, maritime services, education, IT and telecommunications, multimedia, aged and health care services, retail and, of course, tourism are key growth areas for Hervey Bay and the Fraser Coast.

Incentive arrangements from the State and Federal governments may be available for business start-ups and are supported by a ready labour market of skilled and unskilled workers.

With a commitment to attracting new business to the city, the Economic Development Unit is approachable, friendly and helpful and will provide the links for a smooth transition to Hervey Bay.

The cost of living and doing business is lower in regional centres compared with Brisbane and other capital cities.

The Queensland Department of State Development also has offices in Hervey Bay and Maryborough.

Hervey Bay City Council Social Plan

“Keep In Touch” -The Hervey Bay City Council Social Plan sets out the needs and concerns of the community. It identifies strategies to ensure that Hervey Bay develops according to the values and vision expressed by the community, in a manner that provides for the general wellbeing of the whole community.

The Social Plan includes:

  • A description of our community
  • A statement of community values that need to guide planning, development and service provision into the future.
  • A statement of key issues which will need to be addressed and
  • An Action Plan to help us focus our efforts over the next few years.

These Plans include current strategies and programs as well as new initiatives, and are set out under 13 headings, to cover all aspects of Community Wellbeing.


Fraser Coast Enterprise Zone

The Fraser Coast Enterprise Zone – FCEZ - is a newly established industrial region that offers Australian and international businesses affordable and sustainable business opportunities in one of Queensland's fastest growing regions.
Based in the world famous Fraser Coast region of Queensland, the Industrial Parks of the Fraser Coast Enterprise Zone are located around the dynamic cities of Hervey Bay and Maryborough.

This ensures each of the Industrial Parks have easy access to air, road, rail and port facilities, linking them to major domestic centres, and the key economic regions of South East Asia.

As part of the FCEZ's commitment to ensuring businesses within the Zone have fast, efficient access to domestic and international markets, the region's airport facility in Hervey Bay has undergone a $13 million redevelopment.

The FCEZ is now serviced by both Virgin and Jetstar with regular direct passenger jet services from Sydney and linkages to other Australian capital cities. We are also serviced by Virgin Air Freight .

Qantas Link provide daily return services from Brisbane to Hervey Bay.

Major freight and coach companies also provide daily north and south-bound round transport options, taking only three hours to transport goods south to Brisbane.

The FCEZ is in close proximity to major seaports on the Queensland coast. Queensland Rail provides a daily service from Brisbane to Maryborough as well as High Speed Tilt Train passenger service to the Fraser Coast daily from Brisbane and Cairns.

Hervey Bay Airport Industrial Park

The $70 million 40-hectare master-planned Hervey Bay Airport Industrial Park is located adjacent to the redeveloped airport.

It is the only industrial park in Queensland with direct-access air freight services allowing for express logistical support to industry and is ideal for avionics and warehousing businesses.

The project has a number of unique characteristics. The master planned estate is divided into seven precincts so business groups can be clustered together to enhance individual businesses.

The master plan also controls landscaping and building styles in each precinct so office complexes are not placed beside engineering works.

There is potential for a childcare centre, service station, retail showroom, fast food outlet and indoor recreation facilities.

Effluent water is available on site to be used for irrigation and could be upgraded to be used for some manufacturing purposes if there is demand.

The estate is being developed by the Hervey Bay City Council in conjunction with Seashift Pty Ltd.

Bay Central Industrial Estate
Situated only minutes to Hervey Bay's CBD, Bay Central Industrial Estate presents 26 acres of fully-serviced general industry-zoned land with access to all major transport infrastructure.

The already established Estate contains 36 lots and is home to industries including heavy machinery construction, car seat manufacturing, civil engineering and a welding works.

Wide Bay Business Park

Wide Bay Business Park now has Stage 1 and 2 open and ready to meet the demand for quality industrial land in the Fraser Coast.
