Population Increase & Housing Shortage
Population Increase
Massive Government and private sector investment is set to cause fundamental changes in the population of Bowen. The most recent social and economic review of the Bowen Collinsville region, the Bowen Socio Economic Update, predicts a more than doubling of the population to 30,000 in the next 10 years.
Housing Shortage
Bowen has an acknowledged housing shortage. A Queensland Government report prepared by the Department of Housing said:
"A range of housing issues emerge as a result of the mining boom in the Bowen Basin. Rapid population growth has meant the region is facing a housing shortage. The housing shortage is compounded by a shortage of availability land"
Whitsunday's Mayor Mike Brunker asknowledges the housing squeeze:
"Existing infrastructure works are already creating considerable demands on housing and temporary accommodation availability in the area."Identifying accommodation and community infrastructure to support the existing community and the future workforce is a priority that we need to address quickly,"
With an already acknowledged housing shortage in the area, strong capital growth in the value of property in the Seabreeze Estate in the short to mid term seems inevitable.
